Internally Displaced Persons
There are two groups of internally displaced Palestinian refugees. The first are those who remained in what became Israel but were evicted from their homes and lands between 1948 and the mid-1950s. Today they number some 275,000 and represent around one quarter of the total population of the Palestinians in Israel. The second group comprises those who were displaced within East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza in 1967; today they are approximately 150,000.
